Things to do in the Lake District: August

1. Helvellyn via Striding & Swirral Edge

Summiting Helvellyn is a memorable and challenging walk, in one of the most stunning areas of the UK, this really is a must-do for any outdoor enthusiasts. This is a thrilling and exposed hike during which you can take in mesmerising views of the surrounding fells.

2. Windermere One Way Swim

Brace yourself for an epic 11-mile swim that will take you to the finish line at the northernmost point of the lake, Brathay Hall.

Starting in single files, you will be guided from Fell Foot on your journey with 1:1 paddler support, with each swimmer being accompanies at all times by a support kayak or boat.

3. Gosforth Agricultural Society Show

Whether you're a seasoned farmer or simply interested in learning more about rural life, the Gosforth Show promises to be a fun day out. So why not come along and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the countryside?

The agricultural show is an affordable and fun activity for families, with free parking available – enjoy the Gosforth Show with a special ‘Kings of the North’ stunt jousting show.

4. GRASMERE LAKELAND SPORTS & SHOW

Immerse yourself in the traditional agricultural show displays while also enjoying the thrill of sports and races. Take on the challenge of fell running and other various sports, and feel the rush of adrenaline as you compete against fellow enthusiasts.

With plenty of activities to choose from, this event would be great for sporting and agriculture lovers alike.

5. Lake Sail Cruises

Brought to you by the National Trust and Derwent Water Marina, the month of August has a number of 2-hour sails on Derwent Water which you can enjoy, taking in the peace and tranquility of the lake and surrounding fells.

Sessions will be running on Wednesdays from August to September, operated by a RYA-qualified instructor from Derwent Water Marina.
