A Good Season Ahead for Barbour Tartan

Although it has been around for many years and has been a feature of several of the top brands of clothing and accessories, this season the rumours are that tartan is going to be a big seller which is great news for one of our best selling brands of clothing – Barbour. From when the first Barbour shop opened in 1894, Barbour had been using various tartans as linings for their range of jackets. That is until the early 1990s when Helen Barbour on a trip to Edinburgh found out that one of the most distinctive tartans they were using, the Dress Gordon tartan, which featured in their earlier versions of the Bedale, Beaufort and Border Jackets, turned out to be non-exclusive to Barbour. This prompted Dame Margaret Barbour to contact Kinloch Anderson – a renowned British, family-owned tartan company that shared the same three Royal Warrants as Barbour – to help research the family history and create a unique tartan especially for Barbour. It turned out the earliest record of the Barbour family was from the 13th century in Ayrshire in Scotland, hence it was from this district that the Barbour ‘Sett’ is based on, with a brown and navy background and contrasting white, gold and red overcheck lines. It is now available in a carefully selected range of colours and hues that look fantastic on their own or adorned on their wide range of country clothing. We have a large range of Barbour Clothing and Accessories currently in stock with many of them featuring the luxurious Barbour Tartan.   The Barbour Glen Tartan Shirt from the Original Classic Tartan collection is a smart tailored shirt made from 100% cotton and features subtle Barbour shield embroidery to the chest pocket – available at £64.99.     The Barbour Tartan Tote Bag has a water resistant 100% cotton laminated outer and is trimmed in fine leather, with study leather handles and embossed Barbour branding.
