About Fly Fishing Rods

Fly fishing rods, for those of you who don’t know are available in a variety of different lengths and different weights and are made from a number of different materials. Fishing flies are attached to the fly line and ultimately to the fly fishing rods and are cast into the water to try and tempt different species of fish.

Originally fly fishing rods were made from yew, green hart, and later split bamboo but they are now made from man-made composite materials such as fiberglass, cane, orcarbon/graphite.

The length and weight of fly fishing rods varies depending on the type of fish you seek but also the weather and water conditions you will be fishing in. Fly fishing rods also have little or no handle to prevent interference when casting but you can purchase a salmon/spey rod which is a fly fishing rod with a longer handle.
