Fly Fishing Essentials

Fly fishing doesn't require a lot of equipment, unlike some pastimes. As you get more into it, and go fishing more often, you'll find that there are some fly fishing essentials that will help you to make the most of your time fly fishing.

Salmon and trout fly fishing rods are slightly different, and if you're catching both types of fish, you'll probably want a rod set up for each. You won't want to spend time changing fly fishing reels or lines whenever you want to fish for the other sort of fish.

Fly fishing reels are usually designed for catching either salmon or trout but you may want to invest in a different type of reel depending on what you choose to fish for.

Your fly lines need to be able to handle the weights of the fish that you'll be catching. Depending on what you're fishing for, you'll want to make sure that your line is long and strong enough. If you're not sure what sort of fishing line you need, why not ask your fly fishing friends, and see what they use?

Flies and bait are important, and you won't be catching much without the right sort of bait. As you go fly fishing more and more often, you'll learn what sort of bait attracts what sorts of fish. If you don't seem to be catching as many fish as your friends, why not ask them what they use?

Waders are a good idea if you want to fish in rivers instead of standing on the banks. A good pair of waders will be tough and durable, and be comfortable enough to wear all day long. As well as keeping you dry, they'll also need to keep you warm, so that you can enjoy your fly fishing even more.

A fly fishing tackle box and fishing bag will be useful so that you can keep everything together, and reduce the risk of your fishing tackle getting damaged. You'll also ensure that you have everything you need with you when you suddenly decide to go fishing.

If you're still not sure what you need, or whether you have the most appropriate fly fishing tackle, why not see how John Norris can help you get everything you need to enjoy your fly fishing even more?
