Choosing Waders

Waders are an essential item of fishing clothing for many anglers, but for some people choosing waders can be hard work.

Knowing how often you go fishing will help you to decide what sort of waders will be the most appropriate for you. If you go fishing at every opportunity, then you'll want the best waders you can afford as you know that you'll get the wear out of them. If you only go fishing a few times a year, then you might be better off with a cheap pair of waders.

No matter which brand or style of waders you choose, you'll need them to be comfortable, so that you can wear them all day. You won't want to find out that they're extremely uncomfortable when you've been stood up for an hour or so.

Your waders will also need to keep you warm, so that you don't feel the cold when you're standing in water for many hours. Again, you won't want to discover that you get very cold when you've got your waders on.

The fit of your waders is extremely important too, because if they are too big or too small, or don't fit you well, they'll irritate you, and so you won't want to wear them.

It's essential that your waders are durable and up to the job. If you're going to be standing in a fast flowing river, and trying to avoid the rocks, surrounded by bits of tree and other debris that is found in rivers, then you'll want to know that your waders will offer the protection you need.

How often you go fishing, and the price you're willing to pay can help to determine what material your waders will be made from. PVC waders are the least expensive, neoprene waders are the mid range, and Gore Tex waders are the most expensive. Buying Gore Tex waders, and only going fishing a couple of times a year would be a waste of money, whereas buying cheap waders that aren't meant to be worn day after day might be a false economy.

With many brands of waders to choose from, you'll be spoilt for choice. The leading fishing and fishing clothing brands all have their own designs and ideas of what makes the perfect waders. If you're not sure, why not ask your fishing friends?
