There are many different sort of fishing reels available, and buying the wrong fishing reels will be a time consuming, and expensive mistake. You might not realise that you haven't got the right sort of fishing reels until you're actually in the river with your waders on.
If you fish for trout then you'll want to make sure that you easily strip the fishing line by hand. Try lots of different sorts of fishing reels and make sure you try it with gloves on so that you can be sure that you can still use it even when your hands are cold, or it's dark.
Salmon anglers will often use the handle on their fishing reels and so you'll want to make sure that you can use the handle comfortable on all the fishing reels you try.
If you fish for both salmon and trout, then you might be better off with 2 fishing rods and 2 fishing reels. This will mean that you don't have to change the rods or fishing reels about depending on what you're fishing for. You might want to get new fishing lines too to make things easier.
If you're an experienced angler, then you might be looking at a number of lightweight fishing reels like the Shakespeare Odyssey Salmon Fly Reel instead of your normal type. Not everyone likes lightweight fishing reels, so you'll have to try them and see if they are right for you.
As you become a more experienced angler, and build up more fishing tackle such as rods and fishing reels, then you can quickly find the fishing reels you want by marking the weight of the line on each one.
If you have lots of fishing reels, then you'll want to make sure that they are well looked after so that they are in proper working order when you need them. Why not store your fishing reels in dedicated fishing reel bags or boxes, so you know where everything is?
If you're new to fishing, then you may not know many of the fishing tackle brands to look out for when choosing new fishing reels. Perhaps you'll need to be guided by friends, or reviews, or work out your specific requirements which will help to limit your choice. Alternatively you might know exactly which brand of fishing reels work best for you and your existing fishing tackle.
It's important to remember not to buy your fishing reels solely on cost. You might have a budget, and the cheapest fishing reels might be just as appropriate for you as the most expensive, but you won't want to compromise on the features that are important to you.
